Club Leadership Update - Senior President Transition

Dear Roos members, families, sponsors, past players and supporters,

On behalf of the Robina Mudgeeraba Roos Board, we wish to advise that Ewan McKenzie has decided to step down from his role as Senior Club President, effective immediately.

Ewan has given an enormous amount to our club over many years. After almost four years as Senior President, and more than 10 years serving on the committee in multiple roles, Ewan has expressed his desire to step back from footy for a while to spend more time with his family and focus on his business commitments. 

While Ewan is stepping down from the presidency, we are pleased to share that he will remain actively involved with the club and continue to support the Roos through sponsorship, marketing and his ongoing role on the Senior Committee.

Ewan’s contribution to the Robina Mudgeeraba Roos has been significant. He has played a key role in strengthening the club’s profile, growing our commercial and sponsorship base, and helping shape the future direction of the club. Importantly, Ewan was instrumental in the creation and growth of our junior program, which began in 2022 and has grown by more than 400% since then.

That junior growth is now forming the foundation of a genuine pathway into senior football, something that will benefit the Roos for years to come. It is a legacy Ewan should be incredibly proud of.

Following Board approval, David Pourre, currently Vice President — Seniors, will be appointed Interim President of the Senior Club.

David has been Senior Vice President since 2025 and has also served on the Junior Committee since 2024. He brings strong sports administration, leadership and commercial experience to the role, including his previous position as CEO of Brisbane Roar from 2015 to 2022, as well as a background in financial planning and wealth management.

Ewan and David will work closely together through the transition to ensure continuity and stability for the club.

Members can be assured this transition has been planned carefully over the last few months, and the club remains in as strong a position as it has been in our history. Across our Junior, Men, Women, and Masters programs, volunteers, sponsors and wider community, there is genuine momentum building at the Roos.

As we celebrate 30 years of the Robina Mudgeeraba Roos, this is also a timely reminder that our club’s strength has always come from its people — past and present. We would love to see as many Roos members, families and past players as possible reconnect with the club and be part of this next chapter.

We encourage everyone to join us at The Roo Pen on Saturday 23 May for our 30 Year Anniversary celebrations and to thank Ewan personally for everything he has contributed to the club.

A football club is built on the dedication of people willing to give their time, energy and passion for something bigger than themselves, and I want to sincerely thank everyone who has contributed along the journey.

I also want to acknowledge the outstanding work the current committee is doing behind the scenes to ensure a strong and successful future for the Roos. Their commitment, leadership and care for the club gives me great confidence that the Roos will continue to grow both on and off the field for many years to come.”
